Meetali Mukherjee is one such pioneer who has proved that a lady can manage any manufacturing unit irrespective of gender.
After initially working for an MNC where she learnt the working of an organization, she joined her family business where she set a new benchmark for working mother juggling her personal and professional commitments with efficiency. It was a task initially but the stress could never pull her down. Enchanted by the roar of machines today they play an important role in her life as she drew her career in the canvas of Hydax Hydraulics by being positively productive. The conducive work environment and the support of her role model, her father, Mr. Deb Mukherjee, have helped her thrive in the industry.
Being a woman was never a barrier for her; the only aspect was to overcoming the mild sense of discomfort being amongst men all the time.She had a lot of learning to do from her father, Mr. Deb Mukherjee, who is a pioneer in the field of hydraulics, and from a non-technical background. Proving her worth to her co-workers was hardest hurdle which she crossed with ease, “Managing any manufacturing unit is a challenge; irrespective of gender”.
The stereotypes of society have always doubted the leadership of women at the helm of an organization. In the present day scenario where women are objectified to an extent where attractiveness measures the stature of women in society, the manufacturing industry is a ground devoid of frills where women shall find it ideal to express their natural personalities as creators and nurturers.
Added to the modern scenario where women are so greatly objectified, that unless we project ourselves as things to be admired, we don’t seem to be of much use to the rest of the population. In a very fundamental industry as manufacturing which is devoid of many frills, women should find it ideal to express their natural personalities as creators and nurturers.
She was bold in voicing her opinions about the new budget and how it would support women empowerment in India, “There are schemes and there are schemes. Without proper implementation, they are just reams of paper. There are several organizations outside the government framework which are doing incredible work with women in many parts of India. Unfortunately, the government’s withdrawal of support to many such people has diminished the greater effort. I am quite skeptical of the government’s capacity to satisfactorily execute any of their programmers however well-meaning they may be.”
Hydax Hydraulics has never seen gender as a criteria of capability, women in the organisation work at par with men in the organization, with equal pay and facilities to all. Today Hydax Hydraulics has ventured into the field of machine building and robotics in collaboration with another entity. Simultaneously, they are constantly working on newer products to add to our range of hydraulic accessories and partnering with OEMs for customised developments. In her own word, “Ambition tempered with empathy is our culture.”
