SESI (Solar Energy Society of India) in association with AGNIi (Accelerating Growth of New India’s Innovation) and NPC (National Productivity Council) is organizing a one of a kind webinar titled “Challenges before next-generation solar start-ups” on May 15, 2020, 03:00 pm to 04:30 pm IST. With the ongoing crisis due to COVID-19, it is time to reassess and realign business strategies according to the potential growth areas, especially for the young entrepreneurs and start-ups. The effect of this pandemic is being felt in all the sectors and the energy sector is no exception.

Due to the uncertainties and the dynamic nature of the renewable energy sector recently, there is going to be a plethora of challenges for the next-generation start-ups. Moreover, the subsequent reduction in the cost of renewable energy and its related technological advancements are bringing forth new opportunities, specifically for solar energy

The webinar will focus on the recent advancements in renewable energy and their potential reach in the Indian subcontinent. It will include a summary of the best practices, gaps, and guidelines to accelerate the industrial growth of renewable energy, establishing independence in the global market and making India self-sufficient and a thorough discussion and recommendations for future activities keeping the COVID-19 pandemic in the hindsight.

The webinar to be presided over by women leaders is aimed at helping prospective solar entrepreneurs identify key market challenges and provide them with the tools to overcome these obstacles and establish themselves as key players in the Indian renewable energy market

The panel of women leaders at the webinar will include:

  • Mirunalani Chellapan – a second-generation entrepreneur driven by a passion for a sustainable future and Cleantech, specifically Solar and a member of the Board of Directors at Swelect Energy Systems Ltd
  • Pratha Jhawar – a Renewable Energy (RE) professional with experience of working for more than six years in the field. She is currently working in the domain of policy research and advocacy.
  • Itishree Kanungo – working as the State Coordinator of the Climate Parliament team for its Odisha chapter and is active in mobilizing legislative actions of State legislators for low carbon development and renewable energy promotion.
  • Shruti Sharma – an associate and energy specialist based in India for the IISD’s Energy Program, that she helped set up in 2013.

The panel discussion will be moderated by Pooja Monga, Assistant Manager at Invest India, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India who also works on the AGNIi initiative, the National Technology Commercialization Program.
