Indian Railways make a smashing hit in Make in India initiative

From being the first in the world to convert a diesel locomotive to high-powered electric locomotive, to manufacturing a low-cost world-class Train 18, Indian Railways is looking to innovate under ‘Make in India’ and provide an energy-efficient travel experience to its passengers. It has pulled yet another magnificent trick from under its sleeve and made the nation proud, again. This year, the Indian railways have achieved a glorious feat by breaking all records of net annual coach production at its different factories by wide margins.

The Railways has produced over 6000 train coaches in Financial Year 2018-19, indigenously. We can indeed say a huge step towards popularising the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

Under the supervision of honourable Rail Minister Piyush Goyal's supervision, the three coach factories of the Indian Railways, Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Modern Coach Factory (MCF) and Rail Coach Factory (RCF) produced a record 6,037 coaches in total. In comparison to last year's record, there is a stellar 35 per cent growth in the production.

This marvelous achievement has been accomplished despite each of the factories being pushed to diversify their production along with working on indigenous and completely new concept projects.

In line with this, ICF in Chennai also went on to earn the crown of being the largest rail car builder in the world. In Raebareli as well, the MCF surpassed its assigned target yet again, producing 1425 coaches in total. Adding to its achievements, MCF in January achieved its highest ever monthly production by developing out 152 coaches in a month.

Piyush Goyal-led Indian Railways has always been on a record-breaking spree in the last few years, “powering the country for a new India”. Indian Railways is already bending over backward to ensure user's comfort by allotting ₹600 crore budget for the improvement and optimization of existing rail coaches. Let us wait and see what more does it have for us in the near future.
