Announce your Goals

“I plan to do a Half-Marathon within the close of this year”, was my announcement in our gathering, which attracted everybody’s attention, since this was not a small and usual goal. This made me a bit nervous. However, I have often realized that the first step to achieving your goal is to announce it aloud. This not only puts positive pressure on yourselves but also acts as a catalyst in your journey towards the accomplishment of the goal. It alerts you and makes you aware and vigilant, which is one of the pre-requisite if you would like to conquer something.

Each one of us set small goals in our day-to-day lives, and aim to achieve them before the deadline set for the same. However, more than once, we have failed in achieving them, which de-motivates us and retards our progress as well as belief. This is certainly detrimental to our growth. Hence, I have always been wondering as to what could be a good solution for the same. If the start is good, the next step is propelling it. Announcing your goal in a group, I find, is a good starting point. This is a way, also sends an affirmative signal to your brain, and gives conviction about the goal. It is all to do with “possibility thinking” and optimism. Announcing the goal beforehand, instills this optimism into one’s brain and tends to drive it towards the fulfillment of the goal. The next would be soliciting resources and benchmarking against an existing success or achievement. This will enable distancing yourselves from negative emotions and distractions, which usually belittle the confidence towards achieving of the pre-defined goals.

There is also another benefit of announcing the goals. There are more people other than you, who have information about the same. This prompts them to follow-up with you about the same later, which in a way, is a good way of expediting the journey. There more multiple instances then, when the goals get discussed in a forum, thereby leading you to make a progress, at least to give a positive reply. This way, a positive pressure works and enables some momentum and activity in context of the project.

Obstacles are always a part of this journey, but what is important is not to deter by such obstacles and have the vision to solve the problems as they come on the way. This could happen both by wisdom and experience, but more by courage and conviction, to resolve the problems and tread further. The self-belief and faith in the operating team are one of the most important elements that help solve problems and move further. It is not so important that you should have the solution next-door, but the attitude to solve the problem is more intrinsic.

They say, Rome was not built in a day; in a similar way, it is not so easy to complete a project or accomplish a goal, which has been set for a period. But, success once achieved, begets success. There is a lot of charm and energy in the air, once a small success is achieved. We should never forget to celebrate the success and appreciate all concerned team members, so that the belief of each operating member elevates, and transmits into self-driving signals motivating them to move forward.
