Inspiration is Contagious

Sporting personalities often become idols for younger and newer players. We have multiple examples like Virat Kohli in Cricket, Usain Bolt in Running, Sindhu in Badminton, Vishwanathan Anand in Chess. Every game (event) that these sports persons play is a challenge by itself, wherein they try to outbeat their own performance. They are a great inspiration for other fellow players, who look upto them as their idols. This in itself is a great propulsion for their performance.

Inspiration is contagious. Amidst a group of people, it is often a common factor, that people look upto each other to explore a benchmarking. This is where they get inspired by witnessing something that aligns with their interest. The first one to catch their eyes and ears, is the one they usually stick to….hence, it is important that the surrounding be inspiring. A good inspiration is always helpful to be a pre-cursor to a good deed.

Actions speak louder than words, and hence these are important elements of our life. If inspired by the right ones, they become the assurance of productive results. All that starts well, ends well. This is the reason, one should be surrounded by the right set of people, and hence the significance of appropriate selection of people for every job. Qualification criteria is only one side of the coin, whereas aptitude and skill sets are the other side. Alignment of every person with the job profile is a very important step in his/ her career, that enables evolution of the individuals’ persona.

In a manufacturing industry, team work plays an important role. Effectivity is more important than efficiency. Identifying and putting a right person for a right job is one of the pre-requisite to enable the task to be accomplished as planned. Creating a work instruction or a guideline document, is a useful ‘best practice’ to facilitate uniformity of task that helps achieve consistency. It institutionalizes a task thereby enabling it to be followed precisely, and also allows continuous improvement to be done, once a document is in place. Measuring as an activity is mandatory, if monitoring needs to be done. One can monitor something only which has (can) be measured. This also enables comparison of data with respect to the past, to signify if any progress is being made. Feelers (feedback) for action could only come upon tracking of data and measurement against the pre-conceived target. This itself becomes an inspiration for the doer and helps envision a dream to follow. Every path needs to have some pre-defined milestones to reach, and these need to be celebrated upon accomplishment, to form a motivating environment. Appreciation often assists growth, rather than reprimand. What needs to be ensured is that complacency does not creep in.

Inspiration acts as a catalyst in testing times, amidst challenges, when hopes die down, and progress slows down. Fresh ideas and innovation becomes the friend at hand, that enables solution to the problems.
