In a recent report shared by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturer’s (SIAM), the total production of 4 wheelers, 3 Wheelers, 2 Wheelers and Quadricycle in the month of April 2021 was 1,875,698 units. Domestic sales figures of April 2021 of Passenger Vehicle sales figures at 261,633 units in April 2021 (in this, Tata Motors, BMW, Mercedes and Volvo Auto data was not available). When Three-wheeler sales figured at 13,728 units, Two-wheeler sales figured at 995,097 units.
On the performance of the Indian automotive sector, Director General of SIAM Rajesh Menon said that the country is going through tough times, battling the COVID19 second wave. The Indian Automobile Industry has been supporting the Government and local authorities to provide all essential medical and non-medical aid to society, in these difficult times.
Taking steps fighting the pandemic second wave along with the country the auto OEMs have come forward for supplying oxygen for medical use, restricting the manufacturing of vehicles. The Oxygen generating plants, concentrators, cylinders, mobile oxygen vans, setting-up vehicle tracking system are all that is being done by the industry, in order to reduce the turn-around-time. Some industries have also tied up with PSA plant manufacturers in order to reduce the bottleneck in their operations and scale up the production of oxygen plants.
The COVID19 wave has impacted the market abruptly in the month of April 2021. Sales of Passenger declined to around (-) 10.07 % when compared to March 2021, Sales of Two-Wheelers have also dropped by (-) 33.52 %, while Three-Wheeler sales have witnessed a decline of (-) 57.01 %, from March 2021 to April 2021. Rajesh Menon also informed that the supply chain-related challenges are also faced largely by the automotive manufactures due to the lockdowns implemented in many parts of the country.
